Kougu stared after the car long after it had dissapeared, then trudged onward through the water and the blinding rain toward his house. Several thousand litres of rain and a few wrong turns later, he wound up standing on his doorstep. Soaked from head to toe, Kougu fumbled with the key in his numb and slippery fingers. It was a good 5 minutes before he finally managed to get the lock to click and let himself into the warm house. He closed the door behind him, shivvering as his saturated clothes dripped onto the floor. Looking around, he saw the house as it should be: Flawlessly organised. Not a speck of dust could be found, the books on the shelves were arranged in alphabetical order... It was so unlike anything else in any way related to him, it was quite alarming. It was a reasonbly small house, though clearly too large for a single person. A family of four could obviously fit snugly into it. To the right of the front door was a door held shut with chains and padlocks, clearly never meant to be opened. To the left was an open-plan kitchen and dining room. He walked past both, turning down a passage to the right and entering his bedroom. He dumped his scool bag in its allotted corner, though not before laying down a towel on the flawless white carpet. Directly beside his bedroom was a short staircase leading to an attic of sorts upstairs, yet this too was boarded off. Kougu spared it a quick glance, and the distant haunted expression returned to his eyes for a moment. He bit his lip and turned away, then trudged off to the kitchen in search of food.

Ashlee was happy to be home a few hours later.She immeaditly went to take a shower and get readdy for bed.After getting dressed into some pjs,and brushing her hair,she went into the little kitchen of her apartment and got a bowl of cereal.

Kougu glared at his flawless kitchen for a moment, silently demanding that it reveals its secrets. When it did not acquiesce, he grumbled under his breath and turned away, shaking with chills from his soaked clothes. He showered swiftly, then dressed in the first clothes he was able to find: A pair of baggy tracksuit pants and a white T-shirt that hung loosely off his scrawny frame. He wandered back into the kitchen and stared at the empty shelves for a moment, then shrugged and opened the fridge. He grabbed an apple, shut the fridge and wandered into the lounge. The digits on the clock in the corner glowed an eerie green as they declared the time: 12:04. It was amazing how much time could pass when he was just staring... Drifting... Wandering... He could literally think his life away. He stared at the clock a moment longer, then bit into the apple and sat down on the couch, staring at the blank screen of the Television. He glanced toward the remote and reached out toward it, then drew his hand back as a tremor ran from his fingertips to his shoulder. The haunted expression returned for the briefest of moments before he mentally shook himself out of his stupor and picked up the remote. He flicked through the channels until he found a nature show, then leaned back into the soft cushions of the couch, his sleep-deprived eyes locked on the screen while the permanent dark rings beneath them seemed to intensify by the second.

Ashlee finished the cereal and walked back into the kitchen.After washing the bowl and spoon,she just stood at the sink for a minuet staring out the window that was over it.Her life was slowly wasting away with every breath she took and what did she have to show for it?Zip,nothing,nada damn thing.Smiling as she remembered her dreams as a child to become a vet or wolf biologist.She laughed with no humor as she remembered how all those dreams had fallen apart.Her father had died, and her mother had devloped a drug addiction.Ashlee had to start working at the age of 14 as a cart wrangler at local stores just so her mom and she would have food and a place to live.Then her mom had started bringing random guys home.The final straw for Ashlee was when she was 16 one of the guys had tried to rape her and her mom had said that Ashlee was trying to steal the guy from her. After that Ashlee started staying at friends houses til she found a place she could afford to live at. She shuddered at the memorys and walked away from the sink.Ashlee tried to never think back to those days because she would have nightmares if she thought of them.So erassing the last of those thoughts away she went to bed.

As the early hours of the morning began to creep up on Kougu, he raised his exhausted eyes from the screen and glanced around. Self induced insomnia had sunk his eyes deep into his face, and the dark rings beneath them showed as clearly as ever. It had been the same since as far back as he dared remember... He would not sleep, for it was not worth reliving the memories he had worked so hard to forget. He blamed himself for all that had happened, yet at the same time, some small part of him knew that it had not been his fault... At least, not entirely. That knowledge just seemed to make it all the more painful. Kougu pressed his face into his palms, his fingernails biting into his temples as he tried to force himself to forsake the thoughts. He was unable to. Unbidden, his gaze began to rise slowly up until it was fixed on the door, the reflections of the thick chains glinting in his midnight blue eyes. That night... Kougu forced his thoughts elsewhere instantly, yet could not repress a shudder as the haze of crimson stretched through his mind, bathing his mind's eye in a sea of blood. A violent trembling shook his cold limbs, then intensified to the point that Kougu thoughts he might be sick. Gagging, he dashed to the bathroom and collapsed over the sink, clutching the cold sides as he leaned over it, his breathing heavy. Cold sweat dripped down his face, plastering his fringe to his forehead, and his arms trembled as they supported his weight. At last he pushed himself away, avoiding his own gaze in the mirror, and decided that it would be best just to get an early start, and perhaps be on time for school for once. He trudged off to his room and began digging around in his drawers for something to wear.

Ashlee barley got any sleep last night because the memorys kept her awake.When she saw the first signs of morning,she got out of bed and went to take a shower.Silent tears ran down her face as she got out of the shower,and the girl quickly dashed them away.Her life may have been bad but now she planed fighting for herself.Ashlee didn't need anyone,or so she thought.After drying off she got dressed then walked into the living room,turning the tv on to the news before walking to the mini kitchen.Breakfast was the same as dinner,a bowl of cereal and something to drink.The news was the same old same old,people dying,people killing,politicans doing stupid stuff,and gang wars.The world was just one huge boxing ring to her,and everyone was in the fight or flight mode all the time.When it came down to it Ashlee took flight over fight because she was scared to fight.But at school she acted like a completely different person just so no one would see the real her.Speaking of school, she noticed the time and jumped off the couch,turning the tv off as she went to the kitchen.After 10 more minuets of doing her morning routine she headed out for school.

A short while later, Kougu found himself dressed in a pair of old, faded jeans and a plain white school-style shirt. He seldom wore anything different... Mostly because he could not be bothered. His hair was messy as usual, the dark strands scattered randomly around his face, and his fringe often covering his eyes. Thankfully, it also covered the band-aid that he had slapped over the jagged cut in his forehead from yesterday's door-crashing incident. Then again, he doubted he would remain uninjured for long. He tended to walk into things quite often... Though he had learned not to let it bother him too much. Kougu shrugged and tugged on his shoes, then climbed to his feet and grabbed his still-damp schoolbag from its corner in his bedroom. He hitched it over his shoulder and left the house, casting that door one last glance before setting off for school. He walked fr about 30 minutes, taking several wrong turns before finally approaching the school. He paused for a moment to stare up at the building, then walked toward the door, his eyes on the ground.

Ashlee saw the mystery guy again,and got up from her table to catch up with him.Moving in front of him so he would have to stop she said,"Hi I'm Ashlee."

Kougu came to a standstill as the girl stepped in front of him. He took a single step back, wanting to keep his distance as usual, then considered her thoughtfully, wondering if this was going to end up being some sort of prank. In the end he decided that it didn't matter. The pranks were usually amusing enough anyway. "Hi." He replied simply, watching her from between the dark strands of his hair that fell around his eyes.

Ashlee smiled up at him,"So are you new here?"

"No, I think I've always been here...." Kougu replied vaguely, frowning thoughtfully as though trying to remember. He shrugged, forsaking his attempts, then watched her with mild interest, still wondering vaguely what the point of this conversation was. Surely not simply because she wanted to talk to him. That would be illogical. He chuckled softly to himself at the thought. It seemed that the idea amused him greatly...

Ashlee tilted her head to the side a bit and asked,"What's funny?"

"Huh?" Kougu asked, startled out of his thoughts. "Oh, nothing." He replied vaguely, offering a slight attempt at a smile. He shifted uncomfortably as he stood, as usual not quite sure about interacting with other people. He generally preferred to keep to himself... And for good reason...

"So are you on any of the sport teams or anything like that?"She asked.Damn it,I know I know this guy from somewhere,but where? Ashlee thought to herself.

"Not that I know of." He replied thoughtfully. He continued to watch her, his gaze somehow intent and wandering at the same time. The interrogation was making him somewhat uneasy... He wondered how much longer he was obligated to endure it for. Then again, he supposed it was pleasant, in a way, to be noticed for once...

Ashlee laughed softly,"I'm sorry this probably seems like an interview or something."she said while blushing a light scarlet.

Kougu smiled slightly, "A bit." He replied simply. He was silent for a moment, then suddenly burst out, "Sorry, I'm not very helpful... I jut don't talk to people often." He spoke quickly, then fell silent abruptly, dropping his gaze and kicking at the floor. He really wasn't good with people... No wonder he always kept to himself... Why he even bothered going to school, he was not sure. Perhaps he just couldn't shake the hope that one day he might get to lead a normal life... Andthen might need an education to sustain him...

Ashlee smiled,"Well you're doing great for a person who doesn't really talk to people."She told him.

Kougu chuckled vaguely, though his attention had already started to wander again. He had no obligation to reply, since technically she had not asked a question, therefore he would choose to remain silent.

(Sorry my posts are sucking so much... I think I may have developed mild writer's block. )

Ashlee stood there just a bit uncomfortable in the silence.Then the bell rang and waves of kids pour towards the school doors.Letting out a sigh,she looked up and saw the faraway look in his eyes.So feeling a bit disappointed she turned and walked towards the school.

"Thank you for the conversation." Kougu muttered briefly as he walked past her, walking alone amidst the tides of students washing past him. As usual unsure of where to find his register class, he simply followed the other students, hoping that one of them would lead him in the right direction. If not... Well, they were all used to him being late by now, so it shouldn't matter much.

Ashlee decided that she would start talking to him every morning,just to see what would happen.She grabbed her books and headed to calculus,where she opened her notebook and doodled.Her thoughts kept straying back to the Kougu no matter how much she tried to keep them off that subject.Ashlee gave into the thoughts and let them flood her mind.He was cute in his own way. Obviously shy, more of a loner than a socializer.He just seemed like the all around perfect guy,at least to her.

As the other students melted away into their respective classes, Kougu gave up and simply followed Ashlee. He was pretty sure that they were in the same class... Oh well, he would just have to hope that he was right. He wandered into the classroom and sat down at an empty desk, then stared unseeingly up at the board. This was the maths class... At least, he thought so. Maybe not... No that it really mattered...
